This role

As one of our Software Engineers (PHP), you’ll be accountable for building a high-performance, scalable WordPress site from the ground up. This isn’t your typical WordPress development role, we need someone who can design and develop bespoke solutions tailored to modern WordPress architecture, utilizing the full potential of the Gutenberg editor, with a focus on performance, security, and minimal reliance on external plugins. From our trailblazing AI hiring tool to our fully automated payroll solution, every component of our Employment Operating System is carefully designed to disrupt the employment industry for the better, improving the lives of business owners and entrepreneurs everywhere.  Previous experience with WordPress is not necessary; you only need a willingness to learn and enhance your skills in WordPress and Gutenberg after joining us. We will provide support to help you upskill.

Who you are

To thrive at Employment Hero, you’ll need to embody The EH Way – operating with focus, agility, and an obsession with impact. For this role, you’ll also bring

• Experience in PHP development with a strong background in Laravel, Symfony, or other modern PHP frameworks .
• Willingness to learn and work with WordPress and Gutenberg .
• Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
• Experience working with MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL, including query optimization and database design.
• Strong understanding of version control systems, particularly Git.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, or cloud-based deployments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience with unit testing & E2E testing
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and working in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Requirements

• Proficiency in building and integrating RESTful APIs.
• Some experience in developing custom WordPress plugins and themes is a plus.
• Understanding of JavaScript, particularly React (used in Gutenberg blocks).
• Knowledge of modern frontend technologies such as React, Vue.js, or Tailwind CSS.
• Familiarity with headless CMS architectures.
• Prior experience working in a SaaS or product-based company.
• Experience working with hosting infra, Reverse Proxy, CDN, WAF, etc
