Job Title: Special Education MS/HS Educational and Executive Functioning Coach

Location: Manhattan & Brooklyn

Job Type: Part-time contracting

Salary: $65-$100

Position Overview: We are seeking highly skilled and passionate Educational and Executive Functioning Coaches with a special education certification to support secondary students (grades 6-12) in enhancing their academic performance. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who have dynamic profiles, including those with learning differences, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and other developmental or behavioral challenges. This coach will focus on integrating key executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, self-regulation, and goal-setting to create strategies that improve academic outcomes, independence, and overall success for each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized coaching for secondary students (grades 6-12), focusing on improving executive functioning skills such as planning, organization, time management, attention, emotional regulation, and self-monitoring.
  • Collaborate with educators, parents, and support staff to develop tailored strategies and interventions for students with diverse learning profiles.
  • Implement and monitor executive functioning strategies that address specific student needs and academic goals.
  • Help students build self-awareness around their learning processes and develop metacognitive skills to become more independent and self-motivated learners.
  • Support students in navigating academic challenges, managing assignments, and breaking tasks into manageable steps.
  • Provide guidance on study skills, test-taking strategies, note-taking techniques, and the development of effective academic habits.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust coaching strategies based on individual needs and outcomes.
  • Maintain clear documentation of student progress and outcomes and participate in regular meetings to review goals and provide updates.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Special Education certification (Grades 6-12) required.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with secondary students, particularly those with diverse learning needs (e.g., ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities).
  • Expertise in executive functioning coaching and applying evidence-based strategies for students with dynamic profiles.
  • Strong understanding of the intersection between executive functioning and academic performance, including how soft skills (e.g., time management, self-regulation, and organization) impact student success.
  • Knowledge of individualized education plans (IEPs) and 504 plans, including experience with developing and implementing accommodations and modifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a flexible, student-centered approach.
  • Ability to build rapport with students and create a safe, supportive learning environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with assistive technology tools and software that support executive functioning (e.g., apps for time management, organization, or goal setting).
  • Experience facilitating small group sessions or workshops on executive functioning and academic success.
  • Training in mindfulness, self-regulation, or social-emotional learning (SEL) techniques is a plus.
  • Ability to assess student needs and adapt strategies to diverse learning styles and profiles.
