Founded in 1908, Settlement Music School, a non-profit organization, is one of the largest community schools of the arts in the United States serving children and adults of all ages at five branches in Pennsylvania located in South, West and Northeast Philadelphia, Germantown, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and its virtual branch, Settlement Music Online. Settlement provides over $2.6 million dollars each year in financial aid and scholarships to fully 60% of its students. Settlement’s reach is broad, and it continues the principles of its Founders, that there be no barriers to participating in music and arts education.

Settlement Music School is one of only 18 community schools of the arts in the country that has national accreditation through ACCPAS – the Accrediting Commission of Community and Precollegiate Arts School. Kaleidoscope – the national award-winning arts-integrated Head Start Pre-School program – has NAEYC accreditation and 4 Keystone Stars.

Position: Maintenance Mechanic

Hours: Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Reports to: Branch Director and Director of Facilities

Location: 318 Davisville Road Willow Grove, PA

Position Overview

Settlement is looking for a full-time maintenance mechanic at our Willow Grove Branch. The Maintenance Mechanic would be responsible for ensuring the upkeep, cleanliness, repair and improvement of facilities and grounds.

Key Responsibilities

• Open branch each morning
• Assure all security and fire alarm systems are operating properly.
• Check all Building systems daily.
• Conduct routine safety inspections of premises and equipment.
• Work with Director of Facilities on all weather-related issues.
• Repair mechanical issues, machines, equipment or structures as necessary.
• Upkeep property and the property grounds.
• Ensure the cleanliness of the building and ensure all protocols and practices are in place.
• Communicate with the Director of Facilities on all maintenance matters.
• Prepare facilities for special events and summer programs.
• Assist in school functions when needed.
• Relevant duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Branch Staff.
• Observe branch conditions and reporting any needed repairs or safety hazards

Qualifications

• Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage efficiently.
• Self-motivated and self-directed problem-solver.
• Accurate and precise attention to detail.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules.
• Ability to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as vacuum cleaners, cleaning compounds, and solutions.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach and stand for extended periods.
• Interviewed candidates must pass state and federal criminal background checks and PA Child Abuse History Clearances
• Minimum 3 years of related work experience.

Salary: $36,000
