Database Engineer/DBA
Hybrid schedule: On-site Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Active Secret Clearance 

Nationwide IT Services, NIS, is seeking a Database Engineer for a potential opportunity.  In this position, the Engineer will:

• Write PL/SQL and Stored Procedures for handling large queries over many datasets.
• Create tables, indexes, constraints, triggers, etc., as needed to ensure performance and business process continuity.
• Apply patches, provision backups, and optimize performance across various datasets.
• Support the engineers in maintaining the health, security, and availability of critical Oracle database services.
• Apply DISA STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides) to the database layer. This involves locking down permissions, enabling auditing, and encrypting data at rest and in transit.
• Assist the team during maintenance windows to apply Oracle Critical Patch Updates.
• Create user accounts, grant specific roles/privileges based on approval tickets, and unlock accounts for government staff.
• Script infrastructure provisioning using AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible to create reproducible database environments.
• Check RMAN logs daily to ensure backups completed successfully.

Primary Objectives: Assist in the Discovery Phase activities of gathering user requirements, business analysis, legacy system analysis, Epic/Story creation, external data integration planning, and product backlog management.

Qualifications:

• Active Secret Clearance 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
• 3+ years of deep Oracle Database experience (Versions 12c, 19c, 21c)
• Must hold or be able to obtain a CompTIA Security+ CE certification (or higher, like CASP+ or CISSP)
