The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving food, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and supporting overall kitchen operations under the direct supervision of the Chef. This role ensures consistent quality, presentation, and compliance with food safety standards while serving clients and staff of ABC Recovery Center, Inc.
• Prepare and produce daily menu items with attention to quality, presentation, and dietary restrictions, including food allergies.
• Substitute for the Chef when needed, confidently executing the daily menu and maintaining service standards.
• Follow safe food handling procedures at all times to ensure client safety and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain mental alertness and attention to detail to ensure consistency and accuracy in food preparation.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, including completing dishwashing and cleaning procedures.
• Ensure kitchen equipment, dining areas, and storage spaces are clean, organized, and compliant with health standards.
• Demonstrate sound judgment in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment, recognizing the impact on clients and staff.
• Assist with stocking, organizing, and counting inventory to support efficient kitchen operations.
• Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Work independently and collaboratively within a team to meet kitchen goals and service timelines.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and other staff, both verbally and in writing.
• Interact respectfully and effectively across diverse cultures and social levels.
• Accurately report work hours and submit personnel information in a timely manner.
• Maintain a neat and professional appearance and provide excellent customer service as needed.
• Uphold client confidentiality and protect health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate a strong understanding of confidentiality standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support kitchen and organizational needs.
• Schedules time off in advance, begins working on time, keeps absences within guidelines, ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent, and arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
• Displays courtesy and sensitivity, manages difficult or emotional customer situations, meets commitments, responds promptly to customer needs, and solicits customer feedback to improve services.
• Responds to requests for service and assistance, follows instructions, responds to management direction, takes responsibility for own actions, commits to doing the best job possible, keeps commitments, and meets attendance and punctuality guidelines.
• Follows policies and procedures, completes administrative tasks correctly and on time, supports organization's goals and values, benefits organization through outside activities, and supports affirmative action and respects diversity.
• Dresses appropriately for position, maintains hygiene, and keeps self-well-groomed.
• Observes safety and security procedures, determines appropriate action beyond guidelines, uses equipment and materials properly, and reports potentially unsafe conditions.
• Minimum 3 years' cooking experience in a care facility, homeless shelter, or buffet/catering-style environment (preferred).
• 1 year of experience in a care facility (preferred).
• Strong customer service and communication skills are essential.
• High School Diploma or GED (Required).
• Culinary school diploma (preferred).
• Must hold current CPR and First Aid certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire (training provided by employer)
• Valid California Driver's License (required).
• Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
• Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Strong attention to detail and sound judgment in decision-making.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
• Must be able to perform CPR and respond to medical emergencies as needed

This position primarily operates in an office or clinical environment. The role requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to:
• Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, including walking between buildings and up and down stairs

• Assist with client mobility and repositioning as needed
• Perform repetitive hand movements including keyboarding, grasping, and reaching to operate standard office and medical equipment (e.g., computer, mouse, telephone, blood pressure cuffs)

• Must be physically capable of performing CPR, including kneeling, applying chest compressions, and using emergency response equipment
• Ability to see at close range, at a distance, peripherally, and to adjust focus
• Depth perception required for tasks such as reading, computer use, and navigating the workspace
• Ability to clearly communicate verbally with coworkers, supervisors, clients, and medical professionals
• Ability to hear within normal audio range, with or without corrective devices
• Work is performed in a standard office or clinical setting with frequent client interaction and occasional interruptions
• May be exposed to bodily fluids, odors, cleaning agents, and other environmental elements on an occasional basis
• Must be able to respond to emergencies in various areas of the facility, including those accessible only by stairs
